Cooling off in Baguio

For a change, last weekend's destination was to the summer capital of the Philippines - Baguio! After perspiring nonstop here in Manila, it's time to bid the scorching sun goodbye. My family stayed in The Manor in Camp John Hay. It was just my third time to go to Baguio. We usually frequent the beaches the whole year round because my dad is a water sports fanatic. I was excited to do something different aside from immersing myself in the waters.

Growing up, I wasn't really a fan of native goods(colonial mentality) but now I have a learned appreciation for local products especially those created by the indigenious peoples of the Philippines. There's something really beautiful and interesting in the way Filipinos can turn seemingly ugly things into wonderful creations! The weaving designs are very intricate, colorful and one-of-a-kind.

There were also outlet shops in the Camp John Hay area. I saw this super cute shiny electric red raincoat in a Mango outlet. Was suppose to get it for the early rainy season but just didn't. Talk about self-control. Yay!

Affaire Bleu

I know I'm posting really late regarding the Philippine fashion week, but it's just that I've been really busy with school and all. Today I got the best news - an exemption on my French finals tomorrow!  I had been studying the book since yesterday and just as I was nearing the end a while ago, I got a text from Mademoiselle Dy. Thank God for I have time to update my blog now. So this was what I wore to the one and only day I went to the fashion week.(I really hate college summer classes.) Of course, there's no way I was going to miss the Holiday 2011 collections of my favorite local designers, Sassa Jimenez and Jerome Salaya Ang. It was like shopping on live mannequins. Cross my fingers that my picks fits me! I would have wanted to see Kermit Tesoro's too. Too bad we had a previous commitment and had to watch KAOS instead, the musical circus in Resorts World. It was actually awesome! Cameras weren't allowed so...no pictures to share! The costumes were inspiring. Elaborate and extravagant. My kind of thing if you know what I mean.  No regrets. I could still look at all the fashion week collections on the internet over and over again. But circus pictures, even if there were...Not really. That just wouldn't make any sense.

Meet my mom who is becoming hotter year after year. Wish I could still wear something like this by the time I reach my 40's.

My top picks:(I wasn't able to take decent pictures so I just searched them over the internet. Credits to stylebible.)

1.Sassa Jimenez
I adore the balloon skits so much. I've never seen anything like it exactly.

I want this cardigan cover-up in my closet now.

2. Jerome Salaya Ang
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Jerome Salaya Ang is a genius in his own way. The first leftmost is something I would wear in real life. I change my mind. I'll wear everything!

3. Eric de los Santos

This kind of reminds me of oriental Japanese paper origami.

And this...the Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 ready to wear. Don't the obi belts look familiar?

If you want to see something out of the ordinary, something outrageous, the fashion week is the place to go. You don't really get to see bizarre fashion statements everyday. (Unless you see me often. Kidding! I am nowhere in the level of these fashionistas.) These heelless shoes are slowly climbing up in my wish list. I don't really know where to wear them though. This guy here actually designed the shoes himself. I know what you're thinking. Is it hard to walk in them? Hell yes of course! Imagine how dangerous it was going up the escalator in these. Diehard fashionistas do not sacrifice style for comfort though. I asked if it was for sale but he said it was still a prototype. Which makes me think...should I venture into my own shoe designing? But then I thought... Would anyone buy them? I know I would be designing something impractical to wear on a daily basis. Maybe I'll create one for myself someday. Someday...

Girls Gone Mad

College summer classes are driving me nuts. Just where did my summer go? Thank God that I still found time to do what I love doing the most. Dressing up. However this time around I am not releasing my eccentricity on myself. Last week, Bev and I styled for an 80's themed shoot. Here is a sneak peek of my styling! I took some photos while they were getting ready. Actual shots to follow.

This is actually my favorite look. Reminds me of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. Colorful, wild and crazy. The hat is not in this picture though. I love how the model looks like a mannequin here, as if she weren't alive.

I consider this look more tamed compared to the first one. Neutral colors but nevertheless reminiscent of the 80's structured suit. The print on the top had an Asian vibe which suited the model to a T.

And because it's summer, I decided to inject this season's hottest trend - the maxi skirt(in the loudest print I could find). You'll see the full outfit when I upload the final photos from the shoot.

I wanted to experiment on the gif image. It's so cool! Will make more of this one in the future. That's all for now. Gotta get back to my studying. Ciao!

Happy Thursday

March 31, 2011 Post

What a happy thursday for me indeed! After spending my afternoons on movie marathons, I was able to take a breath of fresh air and have lunch at the Celebrity Place. The food has improved a great deal from the last time I visited, which was years ago. Anyway, it was a hot day today so i traded my jeans for these wonderful pair of shorts. I love how the color compliments my natural tan. And while I’m still saving up for my flatforms, these wedges will have to do for the meantime.
